Dysphagia Evaluation & Consultation  Services

Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)

Wyoming Dysphagia Diagnostics brings the assessment of swallowing disorders (dysphagia) right to your door!  We offer a safe, cost-saving, evidence-based alternative to traditional MBS.  This procedure, known as Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing Disorders (FEES) involves passing a thin scope through the nose and then recording a high definition color video as the patient swallows food and liquids.  Compared to the clinical bedside swallowing evaluation performed by an SLP, FEES can visualize silent aspiration which accounts for some 50% of all aspiration events!  This means identifying and potentially reducing incidents of aspiration pneumonia, which is a leading cause of death for adults over age 65.  It can also save your facility hospital re-admission costs, as pneumonia is the #3 reason for hospital re-admissions from skilled nursing facilities.

                                                                                                             More about FEES>>

For over 30 years, this procedure has become the GOLD STANDARD diagnostic procedure for dysphagia alongside the traditional modified barium swallow study (MBS).  But unlike MBS, FEES is a portable system that we take directly to your facility.  Because it doesn't require patient transportation, use of barium, or radiology suite and equipment, FEES can also be completed at 1/4 the price of MBS!
